It has come as a surprise, a history that is being written in the entire Western Kenya Region after the long-awaited Community-based Organization dubbed Western Community Health Association (Wecohas) fostering the Socio-economic empowerment across Counties found in the former Western Province sealed a deal with a Swedish based Partner and Sponsor in the presence of four governors from the region.
Wecohas which aims at improving the lives of people of Western Kenya is set to initiate various projects across Kakamega and neighbouring counties which includes Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and Trans Nzioa Counties. The first project is the establishment of Wecohas Cancer Centre which is yet to be set on an eight-acre piece of land in Lurambi Constituency. The Multi-Million project aims at treating Cancer patients at affordable costs bearing in mind the high costs of Cancer treatments in Kenya. The project is a parallel project to Wecohas Airstrip which is scheduled to be set in Mumias Sugar Company, a programme that was today spearheaded by Wecohas Board of Trustees led by Prof Charles Chunge, Sweden Partner in the project Prof Goran Hellener, Mumias East lawmaker Benjamin Washiali, Mumias Sugar Company CEO Mr. Nashon Aseka among other leaders.
Earlier today Wecohas Trustees with Swedenish Partner Prof Goran met a team of Governors from Western Region at Golf Hotel in Kakamega to strategize and endorse Wecohas Cancer Centre. Led by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya the governors agreed to support the project outlining its possible outcomes should the community embrace.
Governor Oparanya urged other Governors among other leaders in the region to join hands with the Organization to foster drastic development in the region. He said that it was only through such projects that Western Kenya region would propel economically terming the project as a timely savior that will see the region sustainable.
“It is only through such projects that Western Kenya will prosper, I urge everybody who is pro-Wecohas to join and support its growth.” Said Governor Oparanya.
Wecohas will also be rolling other projects in the near future across all the counties, this is according to Mr. Sakwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
